Lister Park

Sunday 6th January a.m.
 Another dull start to the day with a temperature of 7°C at Lister Park, where I made my way to the Lake which was full of birds.There were c200 BH Gulls, 15 Commons, 10 Herring, C100 Canadas,
37 Tufteds and 10 Goosanders along with the other regulars.It was good to see two Mute Swans (Yellow Tag 201), elsewhere in the Park I had a count of six Nuthatches.Other notables were Goldcrest,Coal Tit,LT Tit and Wren.

Park Dam

Saturday 5th January a.m.
 A dull overcast morning with a temperature of 5°C and feeling cold, I paid a quick visit to Harold Park seeing a G.C.Grebe before moving on to Park Dam.Here there were two G.C.Grebes and three Little Grebes and two Cormorants.It was lively here with c50 Canadas,Mallards,Coots,Moorhen, Mute Swans and Tufted Ducks giving photo opportunities although unfavourable conditions with poor light.There was also a good number of Gulls which included BH,Common,LBB and various phases of Herring Gull which I've attempted to sort out.On the way back to the car I got a bonus of a Jay in the hedgerow.

Cullingworth & Hewenden Reservoir

Tuesday1st January a.m.
The New Year started with a cloudy morning and a temperature of 8°C but some sunshine appeared later in the morning.I saw several common species plus Mistle Thrush and Song Thrush as I made my way to Hewenden Viaduct where I added Goldfinch,Bullfinch and Blue Tits, these were high in the trees but looking from the viaduct your above them or on a level.I made my way round to my viewing point which is when things usually improve with a reasonable view of the top end of the reservoir.From here I saw Goldeneye, Goosander,Teal,Tufteds,Cormorants,Mallards,Moorhens and Grey Heron.Then I spotted a bird on a log at the far side of the reservoir, although brightly coloured it was not an easy spot and some what of a surprise, a male Mandarin Duck.
 As I walked on a flock of twenty Greylags came in to land joining the ten Canadas already present. Soon after I saw six Redwings,Kestrel,Pheasant and Greenfinch which gave me a good total of 34 species from my walk to start this years list.
