Redcar Tarn

Friday 17th October p.m.
A report from my dad who visited Redcar Tarn this afternoon. With an afternoon to spare I
arrived at Redcar Tarn with the sun shining & temperature of 15.5°C.There were the usual
large number of birds present, it was good to see the return of a number of Goosanders &
also to bump into a fellow BOG birder. He told me that one of the Goosanders had been
reported as a Juvenile Red-breasted Merganser, this meant having to look a lot closer at the
Goosanders. There was one which stood out from the rest having a longer thinner bill which
I think is the Red-breasted Merganser Juvenile, see what you think from the pictures below.
There was also a large flock of Lapwings which moved around between the surrounding fields.

  3. Thanks, just pleased I could pick it out from the Goosanders, would have missed it without the tip from BOG fellow birders.
