Thought we would go East to Fairburn Ings to escape the poor weather moving our
way. We arrived to a cloudy but dry morning with a temperature of 7°C, parking
near the Lin Dike hide we first saw Mute Swans, Tufted Ducks,Coots and Mallards
on the nearby ponds. Walking down to the hide we saw Pheasant,Cormorants
flying over one staying on a Pylon wire and a couple of Mistle Thrushes in the trees,
the Lapwing flock of c200 birds lifted off and flew overhead. From the hide we could
see Canada and Greylag Geese on the water in the distance with Mallards and Tufted
Ducks, others were there but well in the distance. As we walked back to the car some
Geese flew over, maybe Pink footed which have been on the reserve.
We then went to the main car park first seeing c40 Mute Swans on the main bay
feeding area,on the bird feeders were Tree Sparrow,Tits & Finches which were
scattered when a Pheasant went onto the bird table. Moving on to the Main Bay hides
we got distant views of Goldeneye,Goosander,Great Crested Grebe,Pochard and
Cormorant along with c75 Tufted Ducks.
