Yeadon Tarn & Bingley Moor

Sunday 4th May a.m.

A cloudy morning just 7°C at Yeadon Tarn where it was good to get my first Swifts of the year with eight flying around.  Over the water there were Swallows and Sand Martins, and walking around there was Blackcap, Whitethroat, Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff. A pair of Canadas had a young gosling and  Mallards had chicks, others were Mute Swan, Cormorant, Tufteds, Moorhen & Coots.

On my way home I stopped off and had a stroll on Bingley Moor seeing Red Kite, Skylark, Curlew, Meadow Pipit, Stonechat & a Hare.

Leeming Reservoir

Saturday 3rd May a.m.

Another dry morning but feeling cooler at just 8°C with some sunny spells, walking past the dam wall Swallows & House Martins were flying overhead.  As I took the path at the side of the Reservoir a Grey Heron was looking over the water, a Redshank was in the waters edge benefiting from the low level of water.  In the trees there were Willow Warbler, Greenfinch, Chaffinch, Chiffchaff & Song Thrush plus three LBB Gulls on the water.

Leeshaw

 Friday 2nd May a.m.

A sunny start with a temperature of 10°C good numbers of Canadas & Greylags in the surrounding fields.  A Grey Wagtail was near the overflow, a Cormorant was on the edge of the water, Lapwings & Oystercatcher were also seen.  A male Wheatear posed for a picture and Meadow Pipits were moving around.  I made a long climb up the track seeing a couple of Snipe & Lapwings with a couple of chicks, Curlews were moving around. Coming back down the steep track Mistle Thrush, Goldfinch, Swallow & House Martin were added and a Redshank flew on to a nearby wall.  I walked back past the Reservoir and scanned the field with the Canadas & Greylags and spotted a head just above the grass, with it's short curved bill it looked right for Whimbrel.  It was where they have been before, it eventually moved around before flying into another field.

Local Reservoir

Thursday 1st May a.m.

Another hot sunny morning with a start temperature of 12°C, as I approached the Resevoir there was alot of shore showing which was a good sign for waders.  There was a bird at the edge of the water which immediately focused my thoughts as to what it was I could only think of Wood Sandpiper!  The sun was behind the bird so I walked round the Reservoir and with the sun now on the bird I came to the same conclusion,  a lifer for me. Plenty other birds too with c250 Lesser Black-backed Gull, a few Herring Gulls, Canadas, Tufteds, Greylags with goslings and Pied Wagtail. Another tiny bird was at the edge of the water a first this year with Little Ringed Plover, others were Common Sandpiper, Curlew, Redshank, Lapwing, Oystercatcher and Red Grouse.
