Redcar Tarn Gulls

Monday 3rd March p.m.
A great day with plenty of sunshine & a temperature of 8°C, my last day before I'm
back to school so made the most of the weather with a trip up to Redcar Tarn. Some
good birds here which were dominated by Gulls, with c250 BH Gulls.A site first for
us on the island was a Herring Gull easier to ID with its pink legs on view. Also LBB
Gull & Common Gulls. One Gull had a red ring around its eye making us dither between
Common & Ring-billed Gull but the dark eye made us plump for Common.
Still hard work with Gull IDs with all the variations between adult breeding plumage &
Winter plumage. Then you start with 1st,2nd,3rd Winter or Juvinile we'll not get into sub
species as I feel a headache coming on.

  1. That BHG in flight past the bush is both surreal and phenomenal, well done!
