Dowley Gap

Sunday 9th March a.m.
A bright start to the morning with sunshine & a temperature of 7°C at Dowley Gap
near Bingley. The field near where we park still has Redwings with others seen being
Goldfinch,Chaffinch,Greenfinch,Robin & Wren. In the distance we could hear the
drumming of a GSW with a response from another bird further away.We walked up the
road & managed to get a siting of the nearest drumming bird.We then walked down to
the canal where we saw Canadas,Greylags & Mallard with squabbling Jays in the tree tops.
Overlooking the water works we saw BH Gulls & a pair of Oystercatchers with a Grey
Wagtail posing briefly by the locks, one of several seen. There were Pied Wags around the
filter tank area & we also got flyover Goosander & Cormorant. A walk over the Aqueduct
& into Hirst Wood gave us a Kingfisher by the stream & at the other side of the River we
finally got our first Treecreeper of the year.As we were walking back we added a couple of
LT Tits & a Reed Bunting making for another good mornings birding.
