Monday18th April
With a days holiday I decided to have a run out to North Cave Wetlands where it was cool & a bit cloudy with a temperature of 9°C.I started with a walk on Dryham Lane looking across at Dryham Ings which is a good spot for waders & there were plenty about today. These included
Avocet,Little Ringed Plover,Ringed Plover,Redshank,Ruff,Lapwing,Oystercatcher and
Little Egret. The Little Ringed Plover were feeling frisky & one pair mated so hopefully they will successfully be rearing chicks soon. There were plenty ducks too including
Shelduck,Shoveler,Gadwall,Teal and
Tufted Duck plus
Greylag Geese some already with goslings. Above all this there were a good number of
Sand Martins and a few
Swallows, a couple of
Red-legged Partridge and several
Linnets were also in this area.Walking round the rest of the reserve more birds were added a couple of notables being
Reed Bunting and
Black Cap ending a good morning before lunch and the journey home.N.P.
