Swillington Ings

 Thursday April 21st a.m.

An early start in the sunshine on arrival at Swillington Ings with a temperature of 5°C, crossing the River a Little Egret was in the distance and a Grey Heron nearer the bridge.  There were several Common Terns on Astley Lake and a Great White Egret was in the Reeds I later saw it fly across the reserve.  Others here were Cormorant, Gadwall, Pochard, Shoveler, Shelduck, Tufted, Gt Crested Grebe, Oystercatcher and Redshank.  Walking around the reserve Bittern could be heard booming, and Warblers were heard but not seen.  I got a brief glimpse of three Black-necked Grebe, a Red Kite glided over, Reed Bunting and Linnet were also seen and at the crossroads in the reedbed there were two Black-tailed Godwits.  Others seen were Lapwing, Swallow, and Skylark.
