Leighton Moss Round up

From Friday 8th August
We have already shown some of the birds we saw during our trip to the Leighton Moss Nature
Reserve on Friday with the highlight of the Great White Egret, along with Knot,Dunlin,Redshank
& Snipe. But there were plenty others around too, we started off at the Public hide where on the
island were eight Greenshanks & a Ruff together with Mallards,Coot & Mute Swans. We moved
down the road to Allen hide where we saw another Greenshank,Little Egret & Oystercatcher
along with those we have already mentioned. We then walked round to the Eric Morecambe hide
where the sun was just in the right spot for our Snipe snaps with c150 Redshanks & c50 Lapwings
making most of the low water levels. Then as we walked back to the car we saw a Whitethroat.
Then it was a drive back round to the main visitor centre where we walked to Lilian hide & were
delighted to see the GW Egret along with Grey Heron, a juvenile Water Rail,Coots,Moorhen &
Tufteds. All in all a pretty good morning rounded off by some lunch in the cafe then off home as the
thunder came soon followed by heavy rain.
