Lister Park

There was some good warm morning sunshine when we arrived at Lister Park with a temperature of
15.5°C.The lake area held c75 Canadas with good numbers of Mallards & Tufted Ducks, just three
Mallard Chicks were seen but the Coots had been more successful.Others on the water were Moorhen
& a single Greylag with the usual Feral Pigeons around the site.Elsewhere it was fairly quiet with just
common species seen but the appearance of a Swift cheered us up.

Harden Moor

Saturday June 21st a.m.
A sunny start this morning with a temperature of 12°C, but when we got up to Harden Moor
there was a load of swirling mist.We thought it might put a holt to our visit but it kept moving & soon
dispersed.First up was a Whitethroat singing some distance away then  Great Tits some of them
Juveniles & Sand Martins were around as usual. There were good numbers of Goldfinch, one we saw
looking like it had just fledged, also plenty Willow Warblers.A female Blackcap was seen but before we
could get a snap it disappeared into the undergrowth which is at its height now given the birds plenty cover.
Mind you with the number of people out walking their dogs in this popular location the birds need the
brambles,nettles etc.
Other birds seen were a pair of Bullfinch,Mipits,Robin,Kestrel,LBB Gull,Redpoll & Swift but my
favourite of the morning was a Cuckoo. It flew over & perched on a fence post briefly before moving
off, no doubt it will be heading off back to Africa before long.
We came home via Haworth road to check out the flock of Gulls which was up to c125 in the
Cullingworth Fields area. They were some distance away & we could tell there was a good number
of LBB Gulls but the others were more difficult to ID.

Monday 16th June a.m.
A dull morning with a temperature of 14°C on our arrival at Yeadon Tarn. Here we saw the usual
birds Mallards,Coots,Canadas,Moorhen,Mute Swans & Great Crested Grebes. The place seemed
to be full of chicks with Coots,Moorhen,Canadas all being successful & even the GC Grebes had a
chick. The GC Grebe chick looked as though it might take a Coot chick for its breakfast at one
point.Overhead were Swallows,House Martins & Swift as we enjoyed our walk round the Tarn.

Redcar Tarn

Saturday 14th June a.m.
A dull but mild start to the day with a temperature of 14.5°C on our arrival at Redcar Tarn. Here
the usual Mallards,Canadas,Coots,Moorhen & LBB Gulls were all present.Only a couple of BH Gulls
though but there was a Mute Swan, several Curlews were seen moving around the surrounding fields.
There was a group of 12 Lapwings flying in to a nearby field & Skylarks were constantly singing through
out our visit.Swallows were over the surrounding fields,Swifts above the trees & House & Sand Martins were hawking over the water.A good sighting for this location was a Kestrel hovering over an adjacent
field don't see many of these at the Tarn. The Pied Wagtails turned up towards the end of our visit, also
still present four male Tufted Ducks & two Muscovy.Rooks & Jackdaws also made their usual appearance.
