Sunday 25th January a.m.
A milder start to the day with a temperature of 5°C but a blustery wind making it feel colder as we headed to St Ives near Bingley. Here we were sheltered from the wind in the woodland, we went to the Coppice Pond where there were
Mallards,Canadas & BH Gulls. Also good to see a
Mute Swan & the
Greylag which seems to have taken up residence. The bird hide had
Coal Tits visiting the feeders with
Dunnock & Robin on the ground. This area is not as good for birds as it used to be a couple of years ago when we would be guaranteed a visiting Nuthatch. We did see one later as we took the path through the woods also seeing
Treecreeper & LT Tits.Higher still where the area opens out to heather we saw a few
Bullfinch before we headed back down the hill to the Coppice Pond & home.

This swan, yellow Darvic 101 was ringed at Horton Country Park on 12/11/14 by the Sorby Breck Ringing Group. It only stayed there for 1 day but there is a resident breeding pair there.
ReplyDeleteThanks Judy, Is there a scheme to ring all Mute Swans in the local area?
ReplyDeleteYes I suppose there is along with Dan Sidley of Yorkshire Swan and Wildlife Rescue and the ringing group. My function is to find mute swans without rings in the Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield area, especially breeding pairs then Dan can ring them and monitor their movements etc. Any you see would be useful to me and of course any ring numbers too. You can contact me directly at judy.hogg@btinternet.com if you wish.
