Dowley Gap & Hirst Wood

Sunday 5th April a.m.
This morning started misty but this quickly cleared in to a pleasant morning with some sunshine, our starting temperature at Dowley Gap was 6°C.Walking along the canal it was good to hear another Chiffchaff singing but we could not locate it, others on the water were Canada,Greylag & Mallard.
A pair of Jays were nest building one snuggling down almost out of sight. The water works was quiet with no Pied Wags & just one Grey Wagtail seen, but a pair of Oystercatchers were back.
In Hirst Wood Treecreepers,Nuthatch & more Jays were seen & near the river we heard Green Woodpecker making a din.We tried to locate it getting very close but the yaffling stopped & we didn't get a sighting of it.Walking back we saw one of several Wrens singing, as were Dunnocks & Robins, a good number of species were seen along an enjoyable walk.
