Saturday 4th April a.m.
A cloudy start to the day with some sunny spells later in the morning, our starting temperature at Lister Park in Bradford was 7°C.We started out at the boating lake which now has some boats on but there were no takers this morning. Here there were good numbers of birds including
Canada,Greylag, Tufted Duck,Mallards,Coots Mute Swan & Moorhen. The Coots were squabbling now that its the time of year for pairing up one was already on a nest.As they charge at each other they seem to be walking on water; it was also good to see the male
Goosander again which was diving for food.
As we walked round a
Nuthatch was heard making plenty noise high in a tree where we spotted it, also nearby the distinctive call of a
Greenfinch. Some Mallards circled the lake a few times before coming in to land just in front of us.Also a couple of
LBB Gulls circled landing briefly for a drink & a wash.
As we moved to the wooded are a couple more Nuthatches were arguing with a pair of
Great Spotted Woodpeckers. It was good to hear our first
Chiffchaff of the year here, although we didn't spot it, a
Kestrel was high in the sky & a
LT Tit posed very briefly for a snap.A enjoyable morning with a good variety of birds in this excellent Park.
