Tuesday 16th July a.m.
A drive over to Swillington Ings where the early cloud cover remained until mid morning with a start temperature of 13°C.There was a quick start with early sightings of
Common Tern, Kingfisher, Little Egret, Oystercatcher and
Grey Heron on my way to the Astley Lake. Here there was a good mix of birds and good numbers of
Common Terns some with Juveniles, also
Gadwall, Tufteds, Cormorant, Coot, Mute Swan, Gt C. Grebe, Goldfinch and a
Swift overhead.
Among the Reed Beds there were
Reed Warbles, Reed Bunting, Linnet, Pochard, Canada, Greylag and very elusive
Sedge Warblers that were determined not to have their picture taken.Others seen were
Shelduck, BH Gull, Whitethroat, Lapwing and a
Curlew flying over.
