Leighton Moss

Sunday 1st February
An early start as we set off to the RSPB Reserve at Leighton Moss near Morecambe Bay on the West coast. It was a cloudy start on our arrival with a temperature of 3°C as we made our way down to Public Hide seeing a Reed Bunting as we we walking along the path. From the hide it was good to see three Otters in the water some distance away, not too much bird wise here but we did see a Goldcrest as we went back to the car.
We then moved over to Eric Morecambe hide where there was plenty mud for the waders Dulin,Lapwing,Redshank,Curlew & Black-tailed Godwit.Looking the other way there was more water for the Teal,Wigeon,Shelduck & Pintail, also on the island Oystercatcher. As we looked over the salt marshes towards Morecambe Bay we saw a couple of Little Egrets.
Next it was off to the main reserve where the sun was out but still chilly,we saw Jay,Treecreeper,Wren, Coal Tit & other common species.Walking between the hides we got the highlight of the day when we saw a couple of Marsh Tits, the first time we have seen these, also a Stoat ran passed us carrying its lunch, too slow with the cameras though for a snap.As we were leaving we also got a Marsh Harrier which rounded off our trip nicely.
