Friday 1st May a.m.
An over night frost meant it was a cold 1°C as we arrived at Harden Moor but the sun was shining as we checked a wall for Little Owl but no sign of them today. There was a
Curlew though along with
Jackdaws,Magpies,Rooks,Pied Wagtail & a
Pheasant. We then took the path next to the quarry where the
Sand Martins were in their usual spot, seeing the first of many
Mipits & a pair of
Song Thrushes.
We then had a choice of direction left would take us towards a yaffling
Green Woodpecker or right towards the call of a
Cuckoo, the latter won but we didn't get a sighting of the bird.
We came back seeing some distant
Linnets & got close to the
Green Woodpecker but we only got a brief glimpse as it flew off. There were plenty
Willow Warblers in full song & we saw the usual
Redpolls,Bullfinches,Chaffinch & other common species also made appearances. The highlight came when we heard a different song more tuneful & a richer sound & then we spotted the
Garden Warbler which was great to see.
